Electrical - Turn on the Spots any time. | |
| This easy change to the wiring allows you to turn on your spot lights any time. As it stands now they are only on when the low beam is on (except Australian bikes - the spots are only on when the high beam is on). | |
| FIRST - the connector number, and wire color is correct for a '99 FLHT, CHECK your manual to insure you know what connectors, pin numbers, and wire colors you need to deal with! | |
| All you have to do is locate connector 109 inside the fairing. If you look at your shop manual, just before the wiring diagrams in the back of the book is pictures of each wiring connector in its' location. Connector 109 is a single pin connector. Then you disconnect it. Use a meter or a test light to find out which side of the connector has 12vdc when the ignition sw is on and tape that up so it doesn't short out. Connect 12vdc to the other half and you are done. (I prefer to use a separate wire with it's own fuse, but you could also just tap into any 12vdc line you can find (Orange/White are 12vdc usually)

| If you look at the schematic it's pretty easy to see why the spots go out when you go to high beam. The top diagram shows that 12vdc is sent to the hi/lo switch and then it goes to the Low Beam side of the Headlight. This same voltage is picked off and sent to the Spot Switch on the accessory panel. So when you turn the Hi/Lo switch to High you remove the voltage from the Low beam side of the headlight and the spot lights.
The lower part of the diagram shows how the circuit will look after you disconnect connector 109 and rewire it. |
